A cancer diagnosis inspires a new source of support for the uninsured

The mission: help those in need. The focus: outreach awareness and funding for women and men that are uninsured and under-insured.

Since 2002 that has been the priority for the A Silver Lining Foundation, and a labor of love for Dr. Sandy Goldberg. It’s a foundation she started as a project of passion after being diagnosed with cancer.

The gift of life is the end goal, but reaching that outcome is getting harder as the need for basic services continues to grow and grow. In order to make sure every person gets the services they need, the Silver Lining Foundation makes funding a priority.

The money comes through grants, corporate support and proceeds from special events. It’s a big responsibility, but one that she takes pride in.

Dr. Sandy Goldberg is one of Chicago’s Very Own.
