A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) is proud to report its 2022 first-quarter impact. From January through March 2022:
• Total Women Served: 416
• Total Tests: 515
Breakdown of Total Tests
• Screening mammogram: 256
• Diagnostic mammogram: 128
• MRI: 2
• Ultrasound: 115
• Biopsy: 14
This testing resulted in 2 breast cancer diagnoses.
The number of women served in Q1 2022 reflects a 30 percent increase over Q1 2021. Two factors that significantly contribute to this increase are the ongoing economic impacts of the pandemic and of unrelenting inflation within vulnerable communities across Chicagoland and the surrounding region.
ASLF provides cost-free breast health testing at 15 partner hospitals throughout Chicagoland, Rockford, Elgin, Evanston and Des Plaines. Should there be a diagnosis of breast cancer, these partner hospitals ensure that anyone coming through ASLF’s Buy A Mom A Mammogram ® program will receive cost-free treatment via public programs or the hospital’s charity care program.
As best known, ASLF is the only organization in Illinois that funds screening and diagnostic breast health testing based solely on need. Women are referred to ASLF through a network of community partners but can also, absent any referring organization, request a breast health test on the foundation’s website.
ASLF’s mission is to provide respectful and equal access to cost-free breast health testing through a network of partnerships with community, advocacy and healthcare organizations. In 2022, ASLF is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
